Benjamin K. Wilke, M.D. FAAOS

Fellowship Trained Orthopedic Surgeon Adult Reconstruction & Orthopedic Oncology

Benjamin Wilke M.D. FAAOS is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction and orthopedic oncology. He has special interests in hip and knee arthritis, bone and soft tissue tumors, and amputee care. He specializes in primary and revision hip and knee replacement procedures and enjoys utilizing the latest technology and advances in surgery, such as the direct anterior approach for total hip replacement and robotic surgery for partial and total knee replacements.

Dr. Wilke earned his bachelor’s degree in science and graduated with honors and distinction from the University of Iowa in three years. He then went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree and graduated Cum Laude from St. Louis University School of Medicine. During his time in medical school he received the Outstanding Scholar Award and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.

Dr. Wilke then received his orthopedic surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he had the distinction of serving as Chief Resident. He then continued his training with a fellowship in Orthopedic Oncology at the University of Florida.

Prior to joining the Iowa Ortho team, Dr. Wilke spent several years on staff at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida where he mentored residents and fellows and rose to the rank of associate professor. He has authored over 70 research publications and has contributed to multiple book chapters. He has presented both nationally and internationally and was recognized as one of the most published and cited orthopedic surgeons in both 2022 and 2023 He was recognized as a top orthopedic surgeon in 2024 by the Best in Florida magazine. While at Mayo in Florida, Dr. Wilke began the outpatient total joint program and developed an osseointegration practice for amputees.

Dr. Wilke returned to his Iowa roots to raise his children with his wife. In his free time Dr. Wilke enjoys spending time with his family and two dogs. He is an avid reader and enjoys learning new skills.
